Abstract
1522909 Railway vehicle transmissions THYSSEN INDUSTRIE AG 24 Sept 1976 [27 Oct 1975] 39844/76 Heading B7H [Also in Division H2] In a railway vehicle having two axles 1 mounted in a bogie or frame and driven by an electric motor 5 disposed longitudinally of the vehicle through respective bevel gear units 3 mounted on the ends of the motor, the motor 5 is constructed without a housing, and the motor shaft 6 is concentrically mounted at its ends on pinion shafts 7 of the bevel gear units 3 and is coupled to the pinion shafts 7 by toothed couplings, the mountings of the motor shaft 6 on the pinion shafts 7 and the toothed couplings allowing longitudinal displacements so that changes in length of the motor shaft due to temperature variations do not affect the pinion shafts. The motor shaft 6 is mounted with interposed bearing sleeves 12 on stub portions 11 of the pinion shafts 7, and is axially located by cap springs 6. The stub portions 11 preferably have a slightly spherical form to accommodate bending of the motor shaft 6. Each toothed coupling includes an internally toothed plastics ring 17 which is mounted at one end of the motor shaft 6 on a balancing disc 15 and at the other end on a fan impeller 16. The motor 5 has a laminated stator core 20 clamped between pressure platen 19 which are fixed to the housings of the bevel gear units 3. Hollow shafts 4 driven by the bevel gear units 3 are coupled to the axles 1 by rubber couplings.
