876,589. Motor vehicle driving mechanisms; locomotives. HANSEN, J. J. June 27, 1960 [June 25, 1959], No. 22364/60. Classes 79(1), 79(2) and 79(5). [Also in Group XXXII] A powered bogie of the kind having two sets of one or more wheels, one set being adjustable up and down relative to the other, has the sets of wheels arranged so that they run on angularly disposed paths, some or all of the wheels in each set being driven characterized in that all the power driven wheels are driven simultaneously from a common motor and transmission means. In the construction shown of a bogie 1 pinned to a crane leg 3 wheels 6, 7 on transverse shafts 4, 5 comprise one set of wheels and wheel. 10 on longitudinal shaft 8 carried on rockers 9 and 9a the other. The rockers may be rotated about pivot shaft 22 by hydraulic cylinder assembly 32 to raise or lower wheel 10. When the rockers are raised the bogie is supported on wheels 6 and 7 by rail 36 and when it is lowered by wheel 10 and rail 37. Wheels 7, 10 are driven by an electric motor 11, with an associated electrically operated drum brake 19, through gear-box 12 and gear train 14-17 to a shaft 5 to which are attached wheel 7 and bevel gear 20 for simultaneously driving wheel 10 through further gears 21, 23, 24. Gears 21, 23 are fixed to the rotatable pivot shaft 22. Worm gears may be substituted for the bevel gears 20, 21.
