Abstract
811,978. Electric locomotive driving gear. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVUND MASCHINENFABRIK. May 28,1957 [May 31, 1956], No. 16939/57. Classes 79(1) and 79(3) [Also in Group XXXII] Railcar bogies Fig. 1 with a least three sets of wheels 4 have driving motors 5 arranged athwart the railcar and coupled to the axles through a series of gears 20, 21, 22 arranged in a vertical plane outside the railcar longitudinal centre. In an example two motors 5 are mounted on crossmembers 6, 7, Fig. 2, of the bogie 1 and the driving gears 20, 21, 22 are assembled in a common gear box 8 bolted to these cross-members. The gears 22 of the wheel axles contains sets of springs 25 (not shown) to provide a flexible cushioned drive. In modifications the motors may be arranged further apart away from the central pivot 18 by having gears 21 of different sizes or otherwise arranged out of symmetry. In an arrangement for a very short bogie frame 8, Fig. 7, each motorpinion 20 drives a single idle pinion 21 engaging two axle pinions 22. A similar arrangement is used with three motors Fig. 8 (not shown) for driving four sets of wheels.
