393,820. Electric locomotives and vehicles. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.- (Assignees of Howell, F. B.; 1101, Keyes Avenue, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 29, 1932, No. 27065. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1931. [Classes 79 (ii) and 79 (iii).] Relates to a truck for electricallypropelled locomotives or cars of the type having a driving-motor 10 and double-reduction gearconnections 24 .. 27 between the motor and the wheels of the vehicle, the motor and gearconnections being carried by a truck frame spring-borne on the wheels and axles 2, and the gear connections being flexibly coupled to the axles. According to the invention the truck has a unitary frame comprising side members 14 and end members 15, a transom 16 provided with a centre plate 18 for supporting the body of the vehicle, and spaced longitudinal members 17 extending between the transom and, end members, the transom forming a housing for the motor 10 below the plate 18 and also bearing supports 23, 20 for the motor and a pair of countershafts 11. The motor may be provided with a pinion 24 for driving a countershaft 11 on each side of the transom, the countershafts having gears 26 driving a quill-shaft 12 for each axle 2, the quill-shafts being mounted in bearings 21 on the longitudinal members 17.
