848,884. Axle arrangements for railway vehicles; continuous cars forming trains. RHEINSTAHL SIEGENER EISENBAHNBEDARF A.G. Jan. 11, 1957 [Jan. 11, 1956], No. 1160/57. Classes 103(4) and 103(6). In an articulated railway train the ends of the train units 7 are supported upon at least two axles having wheels 1 smaller than standard in diameter, the axles being mounted in bearings 2 connected rigidly in side pairs by bars 3 which are so jointed together that they retain their relative positions in a diagonally rigid manner. This latter connection may be by means of the axles alone, the bearings being suitably designed, or it may be by means of cross-members Fig. 3, (not shown). Half springs 5 are rigidly clamped to the outer ends of bars 3, and the other ends of the half springs 5 are connected by shackle links 6 to the train units 7. In modifications, Figs. 3 and 4 and Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the half springs 5 are replaced by other spring connections. In Fig. 8 (not shown) the wheels are free to rotate on the axles which are fixed in their end bearings, and in Fig. 7 (not shown) the axles may be cranked. The support arrangements may be applied to separate units of a railway train.
