Abstract
771,541. Axle-trucks for railway vehicles. SIEGENER EISENBAHNBEDARF AKT.- GES. July 13, 1954 [July 13, 1953; July 28, 1953], No. 20458/54. Class 103(6). In an articulated railway train a wheel frame is disposed between, and supports two train units, the wheel frame having at least two wheels with axles disposed in different transverse planes, and the frame being so articulated to the units by guide rods that the longitudinal central axis of the wheel frame, when negotiating curves, assumes a position substantially perpendicular to the radius of the track curvature. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, two units 1, 2 of a train are connected by an articulation 3 and are supported by a wheel frame 4 which is connected to the units by guide rods 6. The wheels may be loose on the axles 5 which may be displaceable laterally. In a modification the wheels are secured separately to the wheel frame chassis and are staggered relatively to one another lengthwise of the vehicle. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, two wheel sets 13 are mounted on a laterally displaceable manner in the wheel frame 4, the sets being connected by articulations 20 to a lever 14 rotatably mounted at 15 in the wheel frame. In a modification shown in Fig. 7, the lever 14 is connected to four staggered wheels by way of rods with link members 18. In another arrangement the wheel frame is in two separable parts each part supporting the adjacent train unit when the units are separated. To compensate for large differences of direction between the central longitudinal axis of the wheel frame and the track, the guide rods may be resilieut or may be capable of automatic release and re-engagement with respect to the wheel frame.
