Abstract

772,623. Bogies for rail vehicles. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 26, 1955 [Aug. 27, 1954], No. 24963/54. Class 103(6). In a bogie for a rail vehicle of the kind having two or more axles driven by axle-hung electric traction motors 14, and a pony truck 15, two compensating beams 34 are pivoted on the bogie frame and extend diagonally outwards from the pony truck pivot to engage at their outer ends the spring gear of the adjacent driving axle, the motor for the adjacent driving axle being positioned to extend into the triangular space bounded by the two compensating beams 34. The pony truck 15 has a sliding bolster 16 biassed to the central position in the truck frame by springs 17 which maintain plungers 18 in contact with the side walls of the frame. The pony truck pivot is integral with the bolster 16 and is journalled in a cross member secured to the bogie frame 22. The pivot incorporates a resilient rubber ring bonded to an inner metal ring and to an outer metal ring which is secured to the cross member. The compensating beams 34 at one end are coupled to the top of the pivot by a buckle 43 and at the other end are each coupled through spring hangers 35 to laminated springs 36 of the adjacent driving axle. The laminated springs 38, 39 of the other two driving axles are interconnected with springs 36 through compensating beams 40.
