Abstract
1510928 Springs SOUTH AFRICAN INVENTIONS DEVELOPMENT CORP 29 June 1976 [14 July 1975] 27082/76 Addition to 1449249 Heading F2S [Also in Division B7] In a railway truck, load bearing members 16, 24 are suspended with respect to self-steering wheelsets by elastic elements 22, 26, at least some of which have a lateral stiffness transverse to the longitudinal axis of the truck which is lower than the stiffness parallel to the longitudinal axis, and the wheelsets are interconnected by diagonal members to transmit yawing and lateral movements of either wheelset in the opposite sense to the other. The elastic element of Fig. 5, as viewed along the longitudinal axis of the truck, includes a resilient block-shaped member 23, comprising alternate layers of rubber and metal, between part-cylindrical members 60. In Fig. 6, part-cylindrical members 60, which are bonded to the member 23, cooperate with surfaces 66 of members 64 secured to the side frame 16 and flange 21 and having a larger radius at curvature. Members 64 and 66 may be interchanged. Coil springs and rubber blocks may be used as resilient members.
