Abstract

804,491. Vehicle driving gear. KLOCKNER - HUMBOLDT - DEUTZ. A. G. March 16, 1955 [April 30, 1954], No. 7688/55. Class 79(2) A power source on the main frame of a vehicle is connected to one end of a cardan shaft 1, Fig. 1, the mid point of the length of which lies on the pivotal axis of a multiple axle bogie on the main frame, the shaft extending through a hollow shaft 4 carried in a housing 5 mounted on the bogie and having its other end connected to the shaft 4 for transmitting the drive to at least two axles of the bogie. As shown in Fig. 1 the shaft 1 is universally jointed to flanges 2, 3, the flange 2 being connected to the power source (not shown) and the flange 3 to the shaft 4 mounted in the housing 5 carried in a rail vehicle twoaxled bogie frame. The shaft 4 carries a gear wheel 6 meshing with a gear wheel 7 on a shaft 8 having flanges 9, 10 for connection with the axles. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), applied to a three-axle bogie, the middle axle being undriven and the housing being apertured to permit spring play of the middle axle, the end axles are driven from flanges on shafts gear-connected the hollow shaft. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) of the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 applied to a three-axle bogie, the middle axle carries the housing and is bevel-gear-connected to one of the shafts carrying flanges. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, also applied to a three-axle bogie, the housing 5 is carried by the bogie frame and the middle axle 19 is surrounded by and connected to a shaft 22 which is bevel-gear-connected to a shaft 16, the clearance between the axle 19 and shaft 22 permitting suspension movement of the axle relative to the bogie frame, the end axles (not shown) being connected to a shaft 15 and the shaft 16, respectively. The shafts 15, 16 are connected by gearing 11...14 to the shaft 4.
