Hydrovanes, arrangement of. - Hydro - aeroplanes having low air propellers are fitted with marine, propellers and hydrovanes to enable the craft to be raised sufficiently far out of the water before starting up the air propeller. The vanes may be of the Crocco, Fig. 5, Forlanini, Fig. 4, Guidoni, Fig. 5, or Piaggio-Pegna, Fig. 7, types, and the marine propeller may be driven by a separate engine or by the airscrew engine which, for this purpose, is provided with two clutches to enable either propeller to be coupled to it.
