Abstract

425,493. Discharge apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and JESTY, L. C., c /o General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Nov. 6, 1933, No. 30801. [Class 39 (i)] A device of the type having deflecting means exterior to the envelope, such as a cathode-ray tube for use in television, comprises a shielding member surrounding a part or the whole of the device and integral with it, and means for deflecting the electron stream perpendicular to its direction are fixed rigidly to the shield. In one form a metal shield 5 surrounds a cathode-ray tube 1 with an intermediate packing 7 of felt, and carries at one end the cap 6. A ring 8 with rubber facing 81 clamps the tube permanently in position. A centring electromagnet 11 and a magnetic lens 12 comprising polepieces 14, 15 are mounted on sleeves 9, 10, which, after adjustment, are locked, for example by soldering, so that they cannot be moved by the user.
