Oct. 30, 1933, No. 30081. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] A television system has a cathode-ray tube 10 with a screen 12 inclined to the axis of electron gun 20 and with deflecting fields for causing the ray to scan the screen, an additional constant magnetic field being superposed on the ray during the scanning action to cause it to scan a keystone-shaped area in a plane at right-angles to the axis 22 of the gun 20 and so a rectangular area on the inclined screen 12. The scanning fields are produced by currents of saw-tooth wave-form in coils 28, 32 on pole-pieces of a magnetic core 30 surrounding the tube 10 and the constant magnetic field is produced by a U-shaped permanent or electromagnet 34 with its poles 36, 38 beyond the core 30 and on opposite sides of a vertical plane through the axis 22. Distortions near the corners of the scanned area are corrected by magnets 44. In a television transmitter, an image to be transmitted is projected in a normal direction on to the screen 12 which is composed of minute, insulated, photo-sensitized silver globules receiving a charge according to the brightness of the corresponding point of the image.
