418,940. Cathode-ray tubes; television. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London.-(Assignees of Morlock, W. J. ; 16, Conard Avenue, Collingswood, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Nov. 30, 1933, No. 33686. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1932. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii).] In television &c. apparatus in which a cathode ray is deflected electromagnetically to scan a screen and in which an auxiliary steady deflecting field is provided to adjust the mean position of the ray and so to compensate for errors of alignment in the electron gun, the coils 20, 22, Fig. 2, carrying A.C. to cause the ray to scan the screen are also supplied through chokes 44, 46 with D.C. to produce the auxiliary field. The coils 20, 22 may be arranged in symmetrically opposed pairs on four polepieces on a ring-shaped core surrounding the cathode-ray tube. Rheostats 48, 50 provide adjustment of the D.C. The chokes 44, 46 preventing the flow of A.C. through the D.C. supplies 30<a>, 30<b> may be replaced by condensers at 40, 42 preventing the flow of D.C. in the A.C. supplies. In a modification, Fig. 4, the output valve 60 of the generator 62 of scanning potentials is fed through a choke 58 and feeds A.C. through the deflecting coils 20 and through a condenser 66. The direction and magnitude of the D.C. through the coils 20 is adjusted by a contact 64 on a potentiometer 56, and a separate, similar supply is provided for the other pair of coils 22.
