[Class 39 (i)] In a cathode-ray tube having a cathode C, an anode A, a modulating electrode system 1, 2, for shifting the beam relatively to an apertured electrode 3, and an electrode system 4. 5, energized in opposition to the modulating system for correcting undesired deflections, a constant magnetic field is employed for fine adjustment of the correction, so that in the absence of deflecting potentials applied to the scanning electrodes 6..9, movement of the beam due to the modulating potentials is prevented. An annular coil 10, energized by direct current to produce the magnetic field, is mounted around the tube and may be adjustable. It is mounted at a distance from the deflecting control electrodes not less than one-half the internal diameter of the coil so as to prevent interference by the magnetic field with the control exercised by the deflecting system; or a magnetic screen may be interposed.
