Convention date, Nov. 29, 1934. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] The concentration of a cathode ray beam is controlled in accordance with the angle of deflection so that the spot on the fluorescent screen is as sharply defined at B, Fig. 1, as at A. The cathode ray beam is correctly focused when undeflected by a solenoid H, Fig. 2, the direct current through which is adjusted by a variable resistance R1. The deflecting potentials applied to the deflecting plates E over a transformer T are also fed to a potentiometer P 1 from which tappings are taken to a push-pull rectifier G, so that a unidirectional current, varying in accordance with the deflecting potentials, flows through an auxiliary focusing solenoid Z to produce a varying component in the concentration of the cathode ray beam. The screen S may be slanting with respect to the undeflected direction of the beam.
