Abstract
424,856. Mechanical stokers. WHITEHEAD, A. W., 64, Ada Terrace, Rodley, near Leeds. Feb. 9, 1934, No. 4276. [Class 51 (i)] In a mechanical stoker of the kind in which the fuel is fed to the front of a striking plate 10 from a hopper 3 by means of a reciprocating pusher 1 working within the hopper outlet, the pusher is actuated through a lever 4 from a rotary cam 7 comprising a disc or wheel having a renewable central or inner cam member 7<x> and renewable peripheral or outer cam pieces 7<y> affording between them a sinuous track co-operating with one end of the lever. The lever 4 is pivoted about a vertical pin carried by the base 2 of the hopper and at one end is pivotally connected to the pusher 1 whilst the other end carries a roller or runner 6 engaging within the track between the inner and outer cam members so that the inner member effects the forward movement and the outer member the rearward movement of the pusher. In the form shown the cam is arranged to give four reciprocations of the pusher for each revolution. On the reverse face of the cam disc are studs or pins 9 adapted to engage an arm 13 extending from the striking plate 10 so as to actuate the plate immediately after each forward movement of the pusher. The plate 10 is pivoted on a shaft above an arcuate plate 14 and after the forward movement is returned either by gravity or by spring means.
