Abstract
229,610. Crosthwaite Engineering & Furnace Co., Ltd., and Crosthwaite, G. D. Oct. 22, 1923. Fuel, feeding.-In a mechanical stoker of the oscillating shovel type, fuel is fed from a twopart hopper 91, 92 provided at the bottom with a cut-off slide 97 to an inclined surface 96<a> in a feed-box over which the fuel is moved by a reciprocating feed slide 98 and discharged in front of the oscillating shovel 138 centrally supported from the shaft 139 by an arm 136 passing through a recess or slot 134 forming in a central division plate in the feed-box. A U-shape strip 131 secured to the feed-box forms a scraper for the upper surface of the feed slide 98 and prevents fuel from passing to the rear theroef. The front of the feed slide is recessed at 99 and the interior of the slide is made hollow to receive one end 108 of a bell-crank lever actuated by a grooved cam 118 on the power shaft 119. The stroke of the feed slide is varied by an adjustable block 101 mounted on a screwed spindle 102. The shovel 138 is drawn back against the action of a spring, the tension of which may be adjusted by one of a number of arms 143 loosely mounted on the shaft 119 and rotated by a pin 146 on the side of the cam 118. The arms engage with a roller 142 on an arm 141 secured to the shovel shaft. The bottom of the feed-box is curved and provided with an aperture closed by a cover 160.
