Abstract

386,430. Mechanical stokers. AMERICAN ENGINEERING CO., Aramingo Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. Dec. 30, 1931, No. 35975. Convention date, Nov. 5. [Class 51 (i).] A hopper for feeding fuel to underfeed stokers of the kind described in Specification 173,596, [Class 51 (i), Furnaces and kilns, Combustion apparatus of], is provided at the base with openings 5, as shown in the Figure, leading to the ram cylinders 6 with flat surfaces 14 between adjacent openings on which slide reciprocating members 16 for feeding the fuel from the hopper into the ram cylinders. The members 16 are retained on the sliding surfaces 14 by projections on the front and rear walls of the hopper. The members 16 engage with the lower ends of arms 31, 32 pivotally mounted on the hopper. The shaft 19 on which the members 16 are secured by pins is reciprocated from the crank shaft driving the main feeding rams of the stoker through a system of cranks and links of which the latter are. provided with pins which shear under excessive strain.
