[Class 78 (i)] [See also Group XII] An underfeed stoker assemblv for furnaces includes a fuel feeding ram having vertical sides 22, an integral top 23 and a vertical feeding face 24. To a shaft 25 passing through the ram is pivoted a connecting rod 27 carrying a sleeve 28 formed with a web 29 in which is journalled a crank 31 of a driving mechanism. On the forward stroke of the sleeve the ram is actuated through a spring 32 and on the rearward stroke through a nut 34 adjustable along the end of the rod 27 to vary the length of the stroke. At the entrance to the fuel retort of the furnace is a casting having vertical side walls 35 resting on supporting bars, an inclined top wall 39 and a vertical wall 37 flush with the front wall of the furnace. The fuel hopper 52 is secured to the top of a casting having inclined side and rear walls 45, 48 and adapted to be bolted either to the wall 37 of the retort entrance, or to an intermediate casting which is inserted between the wall 37 and the hopper-carrying casting. By this arrangement the position of the hopper with respect to the furnace may be changed. The passage of fuel down the sides or back of the ram is prevented by a sheet metal sealing plate 55 with its edges bent down into engagement with the top of the ram.
