Vibrating-hammer apparatus. -A pulverizing- machine for reducing to fine powder minerals or other materials that have previously been broken down comprises a chamber J containing an oscillating flat beater-plate A which crushes the material fed from a hopper O against a beater surface or plate H, one or more springs N forcing the beater A towards the plate H. The beater A, which may be formed in one piece, or of a number of flat strips of stainless steel, is attached to or forms part of a metal arm B carried by a shaft C which is mounted in bearings D, D<1>. Cams g, g<1> on the driving-shaft G bear against rollers e, e<1> on levers E, E<1> secured to the arm B or shaft C. Cranks may be used instead of cams g, g<1> to oscillate the shaft C. The chamber J is provided with removable covers K, and means may be provided for adjusting the beater A and shaft G. The hopper O is fitted with an adjustable shutter P and a fluted roller Q which is driven by a belt or chain from the shaft G. One or more small pivoted beaters U acted upon by adjustable springs V, V<1> bear against the roller Q, whereby the material receives a preliminary crushing. The pulverized material is delivered through a spout R, and air from a fan may be admitted to the chamber J by apertures S, S<1> fitted with valves. The air draught may be used to cool the plate H. Suitable spouts from the discharge spout R return insufficiently-pulverized material to the chamber J. The machine may be arranged either vertically or horizontally, and any convenient number of beaters A and plates H may be used.
