Abstract
570,796. Delivering measured quantities of coal to furnaces. WIGNALL, N. March 3, 1944, No. 3999. [Class 106 (v)] [Also in Group XII] In a furnace having an inclined grate b arranged at the natural angle of repose of the fuel, fuel is fed from the hopper A to the fire B by a rotary valve C in the form of a cylinder divided by a diametral plate c, a portion or portions of the periphery of the cylinder being omitted to provide one or more scoops c<1>. Upon rotation of the valve, the fuel is delivered on to a plate a<1> arranged at the same inclination as the grate b on to which it subsequently falls. A hinged plate D arranged above the valve is raised by any large foreign object in the scoop projecting beyond the periphery of the valve. The valve shown in Fig. 2 has two sets of scoops c<1> arranged diametrically.
