Abstract
721,816. Screw conveyers. KUSTERS, sen., W., KUSTERS, jun., W., KUSTERS, R., and KUSTERS, E., [trading as KUSTERS DAMPFKESSELFABRIK, W.]. Jan. 29, 1953 [March 31, 1952], No. 2634/53. Class 78 (1). A fuel feeding device for furnaces having a mechanically moved grate 3 comprises a screw 7 working in a casing 9 and extending underneath the grate in parallelism therewith from a charging shoot 10 to a point beyond the rear end of the furnace and a screw 8 arranged laterally of the screw 7 and working in a casing 14 which extends in a forwardlyinclined position from the rear end of the screw 7 to the rear end of the grate. Any fuel which falls through the grate is directed by inclined plates 13 to the open top 12 of the casing 9. The screws are driven from a shaft 20 through gears 19, 17 and 21, 22 ; but, the screw 8 may be driven by the screw 7. The screws 7, 8 may be duplicated. The part 7a of the screw 7 is of smaller diameter than the main part and increases gradually in diameter towards that part. It may also be of smaller pitch. Parts 23, 24 of the threads may be omitted to prevent crushing of the fuel.
