Fuel, feeding.-Uniformity in the size of fuel fed from a hopper to a furnace grate is ensured by a device acting on the fuel in the hopper. As shown, the upper part of the hopper2 is provided with a reciprocating bar 3 carrying downwardly projecting fingers 4 which distribute the fuel evenly as it enters the hopper from the shoot 1. The lower ends 11 of the fingers may be pivoted and provided with stops 12 so that they are effective only while moving in one direction. Instead of reciprocating devices, right and left handed screws may be employed.
