Abstract

296,924. Yarrow, H. E. Nov. 23, 1927. Grates; mechanical stoking. - The front end of a mechanical stoker such as a chain grate C projects beyond the fuel hopper A and is surrounded by an air box D from which a duct E is led to means, such as the forced draught fan, for inducing a current of air from the stokehold through the lower and upper flights of this part of the grate to cool it and thus prevent caking of the fuel. An air trunk G at the back of the hopper A is connected with the duct E by a pipe F to provide a current of cooling air between the hopper and the furnace, this cooling being assisted by lagging H.
