Fuel, feeding.-Fuel such as sawdust, wood shavings and the like is distributed uniformly over a grate a, Fig. 1, by feeding it from a p i p e 1 successively through radial passages 2, 3 and 4 in the furnace arch. The fuel is directed to one or other of these passages by an oscillating plate 6 operated through, rods 8, 10 by a crank 7. In a modification, four distributing passages are pro. vided and fed in succession from the pipe 1 by an oscillating chamber.
