Abstract

199,593. Burroughs, C. W. June 13, 1922. Grates; ash-pits. -Ash - dumping apparatus for use with travelling grates comprises a number of independent tilting bars 3, supported on a rotatable tubular shaft 4 arranged beneath a forwardly projecting fire-bridge 2 and with their forward portions 31 pressed upwardly against the rear end of the grate by the counterweighted rear portions 32. The ashes which fall over the end of the grate are caught by the bars 3, some or all of which are depressed by the movement of 'the grate to permit ashes to pass into the ash-pit below. By means of a hand lever provided with an adjustable counterweight on the end of the shaft 4 all of the bars may be operated to dump the ashes. A rib 41 on the shaft 4 engages with fingers 33 on the bars 3 to ensure their return to the normal position. The bars 3 are readily removed by tilting them and sliding them for. ward.
