456,234. Delivering measured quantities of granular &c. material. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and GROVER, F., 432, Dewsbury Road, Leeds. Sept. 5, 1935, No. 24748. [Class 106 (v)] In apparatus for delivering measured quantities of granular material of the kind in which a cylinder a having a plunger f is mounted on trunnions a<1> so that it can be rocked from a charging position, Fig. 1, beneath a hopper b to a discharging position, Fig. 3, the plunger is operated by mechanism which is in uninterrupted connection with the plunger and which has means for adjusting the stroke of the plunger without affecting either its timing or the mechanism for rocking the cylinder. The cylinder is rocked by means of arms a2, links a<3> and a lever a4 pivoted to a fixed shaft c and operated by a cam (not shown) on a driving shaft d. The plunger is operated through a stem f<1> having a lateral extension f<2> engaging within the slot g of a cam-slotted lever g<2>, g4 mounted on a fixed pivot g<3> and oscillated by means of a link g<5> and a lever h also mounted on the shaft c and operated by a cam (not shown) on the shaft d. An adjusting slot h<1> is formed in the lever h and is struck with a radius from the joint between the link g<5> and lever arm g<4> as centre so that in the position shown in Fig. 1, the stroke of the plunger may be adjusted without altering its outermost position. In operation, from the position shown in Fig. 1, the lever g<2>, g<4> is first rocked to move the plunger inwardly, the cylinder is then rocked into the discharge position and the plunger is moved outwardly to discharge the material. In order to avoid any outward movement of the plunger as the cylinder is being moved from the charging to the discharging position or any inward movement of the plunger as the cylinder moves back to the position beneath the hopper, parts of the cam slot g are made substantially concentric with the trunnions a<1> of the cylinder.
