Abstract

734,930. Supplying tubes &c. to winding mechanisms. REINERS, W. March 10, 1952 [March 10, 1951], No. 6154/52. Classes 120(2) and 120(3). A winding machine having a plurality of independently operating automatic winding mechanisms each with a receiver device 36 to which empty tubes 12 (or full supply bobbins) are delivered from a conveyer 9 and from which the tubes 12 are transferred to the winding mechanisms, comprises feeler means 19 adapted to be periodically positioned by the movement of the conveyer so as to detect the presence or absence of a tube 12 in each device 36 and to initiate release to each empty receiver 36 of a tube 12 on the conveyer 9 and means automatically operable during the transfer of a tube from the receiver 36 to the winding mechanism temporarily to prevent release of a tube from the conveyer 9 to the receiver 36 until the transfer has been completed. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the tubes 12 are supported in holders 11 on the conveyer 9, each holder being closed at the botton by a movable flap 13. As an empty tube 12 comes to a position for possible transfer, a projection 20 on the conveyer 9 moves a spring-biassed linkage 21, 22, to rock the feeler lever 19 to test for the presence of a tube 121 in the receiver 36. If one is not there, the linkage 18, 17, 15, opens the flap 13 to release a tube 12 to the shoot 8. If a tube 12<SP>1</SP> is present, the spring 33 absorbs the movement of the linkage 21, 22 and no tube is released from the conveyer. The release of a tube 12 from the conveyer 9 during bobbin-changing at the winding mechanism is prevented by a control cam 28 through a rocker 27 and link 24 which moves the link 22 from contact with the arm 21 and prevents the feeler 19 from being operated. In two further modifications the empty tubes are dropped from verticallyarranged tubular holders, carried by belts, the holders being closed at the bottom by movable flaps, into stationary vertically-arranged tubular receivers, also closed at the bottom by movable flaps, the presence of a tube in a receiver being tested by a feeler device carried by the conveyer. The receiver flaps are maintained closed during the bobbin-changing operation at the winding mechanism by a cam 28 as in the above modification.
