Apparatus for supplying bobbins to winding positions of a winding machine comprises a supply magazine, a holder adjacent each winding position to hold a bobbin and an endless conveyer having troughs, each accommodating one bobbin and arranged to move past the magazine and holders to discharge bobbins into the holders if the latter are empty. The supply magazine 5 is fed with empty bobbins by a conveying arrangement not shown and receives them on a drop flap 21 provided with a hook 24 to prevent oscillation of bobbins 3<SP>111</SP> hanging from the drop flap 21 before they fall into the filling shaft 19 via an intermediate platform 20. A striker arm pushes down each bobbin as it falls from the flap 21 and prevents it from springing back from the intermediate platform 20. A feeler lever 25 periodically sweeps the space above the filling shaft 19 and, if the magazine is filled, interrupts the supply of bobbins. Beneath the magazine 5 is a control pawl 10 adapted to rotate pivoted shutters 16, 17 for release of a bobbin when the pawl 10 is actuated by a control lever 7 on an empty trough 4. Each trough 4 has a lever 7 which is capable of being held in one of two positions according to whether the trough 4 contains a bobbin or is empty. Each holder 6 has a pawl 11 which is held when the holder is empty in a position to be struck by the lever 7 of a trough containing a bobbin, so as to cause the bobbin to be dropped into the holder 6 where it rests on a flap 27 until the automatic change device of the winding station, not shown, swings the flap 27 aside to release the bobbin.
