Abstract

The present invention relates to one cylinder circular knitting machines for manufacturing hosiery and similar goods, in which the disadvantage encountered hitherto with yarn guides and needles, i.e. the possibility of mutual impact thereof, e.g. upon yarn breakage, is removed by the arrangement according to the present invention, of which the subject matter consists substantially in that the guides are arranged radially movably relative to the needle cylinder as well as being swingable between their operative and inoperative positions. Thus the guides are moved radially, e.g. by lever 7, towards the needles for changing the yarn, e.g. by rods 15, and are then withdrawn again radially. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION One cylinder circular knitting machine for manufacturing hosiery and similar goods The present invention relates to a one cylinder circular knitting machine for manufacturing hosiery and similar goods, which is provided in its separate feed systems with swingably controllable yarn guides to be swung into their operative and inoperative positions.
Small diameter one cylinder knitting machines for manufacturing hosiery and similar goods are known, in which are arranged, in the separate feed systems, yarn guides which are swingable in a vertical plane which is approximately normal to the needle path. The pivot point of the yarn guides is firmly connected to the yarn guide frame. Upon swinging out the yarn guide into an upper, inoperative position, the appurtenant yarn is disengaged and not knitted further while in the lower, operative position of the yarn guide, the yarn is fed to the needles. The yarn guide in this lower position bears with its lower edge against a bridge, and is drawn thereto by a spring. For the correct operation of the yarn guide upon engaging the yarn, i.e. for the purpose of feeding correctly the yarn to be engaged between the needles, it is desirable that the yarn guide, or the mouth of its guiding tube, should be located as low as possible and, simultaneously, as near as possible to the needle path. In knitting machines operating at high revolutions, needles are used with a very small latch opening. In those machines, the needle path must be then, relative to the bridge, such that the pivot point of the needle latch is either at level or even about the level of the bridge edge. With that mutual arrangement of the yarn guides, the bridge and the needle path however, it might happen that upon yarn breakage, the opened needle latches might get into the space of the yarn guides tilted down, above the bridge, and impact the tilted down yarn guides, whereupon the needles are damaged.
The purpose of the present invention consists in mitigating the said disadvantages in a simple manner.
According to the present invention there is provided a one cylinder circular knitting machine for manufacturing hosiery and similar goods, provided in the separate feeds with yarn guides which are swingably movable into their operative and inoperative positions and are also radially movably relative to the needle cylinder.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic side view of the yarn guide mounting on the feeding station and their control elements; Fig. 2 is the same as in Fig. 1 but with a separate yarn guide control by a simpler system.
A one cylinder hosiery knitting machine is provided with a needle cylinder 1, in the longitudinal tricks of which are mounted needles 2 and below them but not shown, needle jacks for controlling said needles. In each feed, feeding stations are arranged on a frame 3. The feeding station consists of a stand 4, which is fixed by its horizontal part to frame 3. On this horizontal part, a bridge 5 is also mounted. On the vertical part of stand 4, a pin 6 is mounted, on which is swingably arranged a two arm lever 7. On one end of lever 7, yarn guides 9 and 10 are swingably mounted beside each other on pin 8, said guides being spring-biased by springs 11, and 12, of which the other ends are fastened on a holder 13.On the other end of holder 13, eyelets for guiding yarns P and P' are made, holder 13 being mounted on the vertical part of stand 4. On the other arm of lever 7 than that on which is mounted pin 8, a cable 14 is fastened, which is controlled by means of a not represented lever from the segments of the control drum of the machine. Further, the separate yarn guides 9, 10 are controlled into their operative and inoperative positions by means of rods 15, which are controlled via a not represented mechanical transmission from the control drum of the machine.
The device as specified above operates as follows: Upon interchanging yarn guides 9 and 10 by an instruction from the control drum lever 7 swings out, by intermediary of cable 14, in the direction of arrow S. Thus both yarn guides 9, 10 are displaced radially towards needle cylinder 1, springs 11 and 12 pressing by their pull the front ends of yarn guides 9 and 10 with the inserting tubes for yarns P, P' in the direction towards bridge 5. The engaged yarn guide 9 is pressed on bridge 5, as shown in Fig. 1. Further, said yarn guide 9 is lifted, by instruction from the control drum, by rod 15 into its inoperative position, and yarn guide 10 by its rod 15 engaged into the operative position. Upon lifting yarn guide 9, i.e.
upon disengagement of yarn P', and upon engagement of yarn guide 10, i.e. upon introducing yarn P into needles 2, lever 7 swings out again, upon instruction from the control drum, in a direction opposite to arrow Shinto its original position, yarn guides 9 and 10 being displaced away from needle cylinder 1. The interchanging of yarn guides 9 and 10 is performed in the above manner, while during the knitting operation the distance of the end of the engaged yarn guide, or its inserting tube corresponds to a distance slightly longer than the range of the open needle latch in its horizontal position.
A further variation of controlling yarn guides consists in controlling them by means of a single rod 16 (Fig. 2) for each yarn guide, said rod being controlled from the control drum. A yarn guide 1 7 is swingably mounted on a pin 18 of a two arm lever 19, which is biased by tension spring 191 fastened on a not represented holder, fixed on frame 3.
Yarn guide 17 is biased by a tension spring 20, of which the other end is fastened on holder 1 3 for fastening the eyelets for guiding yarns to the yarn guides. Furthermore, lever 1 9 is mounted swingably on rod 21, which is inserted into the vertical part of stand 4, passing through the opening 17 of guide 19 as well as through further openings of further, not represent guides, which make it possible that the yarn guides move in a direction radialy towards needle cylinder 1.
The controlling of the yarn guide according to Fig. 2 is performed as follows: Guide 17 is in its operative tilted position. By instruction from the control drum, rod 16 presses against an arm 19' of lever 19, which swings out in the direction of arrow S. Before arm 19' starts lifting guide 17, pin 18 moves, due to the swinging motion, radially towards needle cylinder 1. Thereby also guide 17 is displaced, and its front part moves ahead upon bridge 5 into a position equal to that of guide 9 in Fig. 1. In the further course, arm 19' of lever 1 9 begins to lift guide 17 into its inoperative position, yarn P" being removed from needles 2. Upon engaging guide 17 into its operative position, the sequence of steps is opposite as upon disengagement of the guide, while the back movement of the guide is performed by spring 191, rod 16 being drawn back to its original position by instruction of the control drum.
The device according to the present invention has the advantage consisting in that it is possible to displace the guides, upon interchanging them, near towards the needle cylinder, thus making possible a better introduction of yarns.
Furthermore, by moving the guides away during knitting, the open latches cannot impact the guides in operative position.
