Abstract

467,223. Fuel - feeding hoppers. SMOKELESS COMBUSTION CO., Ltd., and SWORD, J. N. Aug. 28, 1936, No. 23646. [Class 78 (i)] A mechanical stoker comprises a driven rotor 15 working in a housing 9 mounted on the front wall 10 of the furnace, means for feeding fuel to the housing, and pivoted blades 18 on the rotor which throw the fuel into the furnace and are held in the operative' position by centrifugal force. In the construction shown, fuel is fed from a hopper 1 to the rotor by means of a reciprocatory pusher 4, 4a, 4b oscillated by a plate 6 fixed on a rocking shaft 5. The rotor blades 18 are separately pivoted on pins 17 in collars 15 on the rotor shaft 14 and are formed with tail-pieces 18b which engage the shaft and determine the operative position of each blade. Alternate blades pivoted between the same pair of collars are arranged to form parts of righthand and left-hand screw-threads, and the blades of each set having coaxial pivots are all of the same " hand." The trajectory of the fuel thrown into the furnace may be varied in known manner by altering the position of a plate 12 about the axis of the rotor, and the rate of fuel feed may be varied by altering the stroke of the reciprocating feed member 4.
