Abstract

423,283. Pipe joints. HAUSER, J., Nõfels, Glarus, Switzerland. March 22, 1934, No. 9019. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 24, 1934.] [Class 99 (i)] Fluidtightness in a spigot-and-socket pipe joint, Fig. 1, is secured by a packing ring 6 which is compressed by a metal enclosing ring 7 bolted to the flange 5 of the socket 3 and bearing closely against the said flange 5 and also an enlargement 11 on the spigot pipe 1, the surfaces of the flange 5 and enlargement 11 being machined. The joint is completed by caulking or upsetting the inner edge 12 of the ring 7 against the machined surface 10 of said enlargement 11. Fig. 3 shows the invention applied to a sleeve joint in which case the rings 7 bear against the pipes 25, 26 and the ends of the jointing sleeve 27.
