Abstract
492,959. Soldered pipe joints. YORKSHIRE COPPER WORKS, Ltd., and FRASER, K. Dec. 29, 1936, No. 35581. [Class 99 (i)] A pipe 4, Fig. 1, is jointed to a socketed fitting 1 by solder &c. after an obturator ring 2, which is located in the socket prior to the insertion of the pipe, has been brought into such a position in relation to the socket and pipe as to form spaces of capillary dimensions therebetween. The positioning of the obturator ring may be effected by tamping &c., or by a backing ring 3 in screwthreaded engagement with the socket, and the solder for jointing is preferably disposed in recesses 5a, 5b in the socket and the said ring as shown. The ring may be split to provide flexibility, or in the form of a coil, Fig. 8, and its surfaces may be provided with a layer of solder &c. before insertion into the socket. A plurality of obturator rings 2, 2a, 2b may be used, for example in the manner shown in Fig. 5.
