Abstract

423,085. Pedestal bearings; lubricating. BERRISFORD, W. H., Highfields, Sandon Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. July 2, 1934, No. 19513. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (ii)] A pedestal suit able for pit tubs &c., has a bearing pad 2 with two sur faces 6, 7, only pre sented to the sup porting axle 10 these surfaces being in the form of an inverted obtuseangled V. The pedestal comprises a sole plate 1 with an integral bearing pad 2, a cap 3 being secured to the sole plate by bolts 5. The surfaces 6, 7 are preferably formed at an angle of 120‹, and generally at an angle of not less than 100‹. A lubricant reservoir 8 is formed between these surfaces in which lubricant scraped by the axle 10 from the usual track greaser collects. The edges of the sole plate may be bent round the ends of the cap to retain the latter if the bolts 5 break. The pedestal may be constructed of cast iron or mild or cast steel and the bearing pad may be welded to the sole plate.
