Abstract

258,867. Macway, I. Sept. 23, 1925, [Convention date]. Force-feed lubricating.-Grease contained in a chamber 7 provided in an axle-box 1 below the journal 3 is pressed against the underside of the journal by a spring-pressed piston 15 mounted in a cylindrical chamber 9 arranged at the front of the box and communicating with the chamber 7 through a passage 8. The rod 17 of the piston protrudes through a cover 10 to serve as an indicator. Escape of grease is prevented by a pad 14 carried in a metal box 11 surrounding the chamber 7 and pressed upwards by springs 12. For applying the invention to an existing axlebox, the chamber 7, passage 8 and chamber 9 are made integral with the axle-box lid. The cylinder 9 may be arranged on the side of the axle-box.
