Abstract

320,838. Leonard, N. Sept. 7, 1928. Divided on 320,726, [Class 12 (iii), Lubricators &c.]. Channels and reservoirs in axleboxes.-In an axle-box having an oil reservoir and lubrication effected by a lifting blade and passages in the bearing-brass, a partitionment for filtering the oil is made removable. The partitionment consists of members 17<1> - - 17<4> which do not extend to the sides of the box and around which the oil passes in a zig-zag course, together with a perforated partition 110 through which the oil must pass before reaching the blade 25. The partition 110 engages in a depression 115 on the box, and by hooks 30 under stops 18, and is hinged at 111 to the partitionment. which is thrust towards the rear by plate springs 112. On the partitionment may be placed a cover 16' with longitudinal boxes 16<2>. An accessory service to store oil when the box is tilted consists of a plate 148 secured by bolts 147 to a rim 145 on the box, and longitudinal lips on the box facilitate the flow of oil on to the cover 16<1>. A ridge 100 cast on the box prevents water from passing to the front of the box. The device may be employed with the cover 16<1> removed, and packing inserted to lubricate the journal 8 directly.
