325,223. Eveno, G. Aug. 13, 1928. Lubricant conveyed by mechanical means.-An axle-box for railway vehicles has a sloping bottom with transverse partitions 5 with apertures 6, dividing the oil container into compartments so that the lubricant is decanted before reaching the front compartment 3<a> from which it is lifted by a rotating blade 7 to a bush 8 with passages 12, 13 leading to longitudinal channels in the bearing surface. At high speeds the blade cooperates with grooves 10 on the box to convey oil to the bush 8. Oil is prevented from escaping along the axle by a rotating ring 16 in combination with the slope of the wall 19 of the axle box and with grooves 20 acting to return the lubricant to the rear compartment 3b. A cover 27 is secured to the box by a joint 28 protected against the entry of oil by an upper gutter 29 on the box and a lower gutter 30 on the cover itself.
