Abstract

313,640. Cole, W. A. March 9, 1928. Axle-bearing guiding-arrangements.-The wedge 15 or shoe 29 inserted between the axle-box 12 and the hornplates 11, 10 is provided with a removable wear plate 20 fitting in tapered grooves 18, 19 in the wedge &c. so that the plate can only be removed by a lateral transverse movement. The plate is normally held in position by the flanges of the axle-box. The wedge is preferably of cast steel and the plate of soft metal, such as brass. Lubricating grooves are formed on the wearing surface of the plate and these grooves communicate with two longitudinal passages in the wedge, lubricant being forced in through the more convenient of these passages and the other being plugged. The wedge and the plate are formed with coinciding openings 32 for the reception of the means by which the wedge is held in place.
