Abstract
470,141. Vehicle axle-bearings. INGHAM & SONS, Ltd., J., and ODDIE, W. M. Sept. 26, 1936, No. 26141. [Class 12 (i)] A pedestal bearing for the axles of pit tubs and the like has an arcuate upper bearing surface 1 which rests upon the axle, and tangential side cheeks 2 which engage the axle alternately according to the direction of travel, longitudinal retention grooves 3 for lubricant being provided at the junction of the arcuate and tangential bearing surfaces, and a lubricant retaining pocket 4 in communication with the adjacent retention groove 3 being formed in each side cheek. The grooves 3 may be wavy or sinuous. Each cheek 2 may have a cut-out portion 5 opposite the pocket 4 in the other cheek through which lubricant may be supplied. The upper face of the pedestal has a grease reservoir 6 leading to the bearing surface through a central port 7. The side cheeks may be provided with an axle-retaining bolt, or with a U-shaped axle strap 8.
