Abstract
699,009. Vehicle-axle bearings. COLLINS, W. C. May 28, 1952, No. 13476/52. Class 12 (i). In a pedestal for colliery corves or mine cars of the kind provided with a bearing part 8 so shaped that the bearing area is maintained constant as wear occurs, grease reservoirs 7 extend horizontally on each side of the bearing portion and the edges and sides of the latter are so formed as to scrape excess lubricant from the axle and return it to the reservoirs 7, whilst the bearing surface of the pedestal is formed with a series of oblique grooves or slots 13 which constitute additional lubricant reservoirs. Channels 9, partly closed by end faces 11 on the bracket, form communication between the axle 2 and reservoirs 7. Depending flanges 10 of the pedestal bracket assist the retention of lubricant on the axle 2. The spectacle 1 is retained in position by split pins passing through transverse holes 4 in the bracket 3.
