Abstract

662,383. Axle-boxes. LARAN, E. P. July 29, 1949, No. 20033/49. Class 12 (i). In an axle-box having an upper lubricated bearing, a shield for preventing the displacement of the box parts as a result of shocks, has bosses 4 provided on one side of the shield which are displaced with respect to bosses 5 on the other side of the shield by an amount equal to half the difference between the maximum and minimum diameters of the journals intended to be mounted in the axlebox. The bosses 4 or 5, depending on whether the shaft is new or worn, are adapted to be seated on and bolted to rests on the axle-box. An arcuate bearing strip 8 is secured to the shield 1 by flanges 9 and has slight clearance with respect to the journal.
