422,509. Boots &c. SELBY SHOES, Ltd., 51, Regent Arcade House, Regent Street, London.-(Bain, W. H. ; Hotel La Salle, Portsmouth, Ohio, U.S.A.) Jan. 2, 1934, No. 154. [Class 17 (ii)] A shoe &c. insole has a relatively thick and inflexible shank B and a relatively thin and flexible forepart A having removably secured thereto a backing piece C to hold the parts to shape during lasting. The forepart may be of thin leather and the shank of ordinary insole leather and they may be permanently connected together by an overlapping skived joint. The temporary backing C is of material having greater tensile strength and stiffness than the forepart A to take the lasting strains and is removed after lasting. A filler of cotton may be used between the inner and outer soles. The outersole may be secured permanently by adhesive, or, after temporarily holding the outersole in place on the insole by cement, the last may be removed and the outersole secured by stitching.
