Abstract

515,535. Boots &c. DEL-MAC SHOE PROCESS CORPORATION. June 2, 1938, No. 16497. Convention date, June 3, 1937. [Class 17 (ii)] A composite insole comprises a flexible layer of leather having only a skeleton forepart and an integral shank portion and a separate layer of relatively stiff material having a head portion and a shank portion ending adjacent the rear end of the forepart of the insole, the overlapping shank portions being secured together. The insole together with an outer sole having a projection complementary to the skeleton forepart of the insole may be formed by splitting a single blank formed by joining a blank of sole leather 22 Fig. 6 to a unitary shank and heel piece 20, in a rounding machine as described in Specification 450,881, along the plane X ... X to form a full length insole 20, Fig. 7, with thickened shank and heel portions and a short outersole 45 with projection complementary to an aperture in the insole. A reinforcing member 30 may be temporarily stuck to the insole over the aperture to reinforce it during splitting of the blank and lasting of the upper. The rear end of the outer sole fits into an arcuate groove 62, Fig. 11, in the breast face of a head 60 with a tongue 63 on the heel projecting between the inner and outer soles.
