Abstract
478,061. Boots and shoes. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Co.) July 11, 1936, No. 19268. [Class 17 (ii)] A narrow strip 26 of material is stitched to the outer face of a skeleton insole 10 extending substantially parallel to the edge of the insole and to the edge of an opening 12 in its forepart. A temporary reinforcing member 24 formed separately from the strip may be secured to the opposite face of the insole to cover the aperture 12 by the stitches 28 which secure the strip. The securing stitches for the strip may pass, as shown, near the edge of the strip or through the middle, the two parts being then stuck together. The insole 10 may be employed for Goodyear welt shoes or in a method of making shoes as described in Specification 355,332, and the outer sole, which is complementary to the insole and may be formed with it from a single blank, may in that case be secured by through-stitching or by cement. The reinforcing member 24 is detached after the outer sole has been secured. The strip 26 may extend from the heel breast line forwards to the tip, as shown, or to the toe cap line, and rearwardly to the heel breast line on the opposite side, and the shank and heel of the insole may, if desired, be reinforced.
