Abstract

549,812. Boots &c. ATLAS-UNION SHOE CO., Ltd., and ATLAS, A. Jan. 23, 1942. No. 1002. [Class 17 (ii)] In the manufacture of a shoe in which the usual external heel is dispensed with, the seat portion of a leather insole is split into two layers 6a, 6b and, after securing a shank stiffener 8 in place by tacks 9, 10, a flat heel 2 is inserted between the layers 6a, 6b, and secured in place by adhesive. The insole thus prepared is secured to a last, and the upper and upper materials lasted and secured by tacks 15, the quarter of the shoe being increased in depth from a to b to accommodate the internal heel. After removal of the last, the internal heel is further secured by stitching 20. The shoe is completed by a stuck-on outer sole, and, if desired, by a heel tap. Specification 447,194 is referred to.
