Abstract

745,335. Boots &c. MACCARONE, F. Jan. 20, 1954 [April 29, 1953], No. 1704/54. Class 17 (2). In a force-lasted shoe the lasting allowance 8 of the upper is stitched to a centre piece 4 of resilient material preferably one with one-way stretch, of the general configuration of the shoe bottom, but is initially smaller than its dimension in the finished shoe so that, when the last is inserted, the piece 4 is stretched, the upper is conformed to the last and an outer sole is secured to the lasting allowance of the upper. The centre piece 4 is initially cemented, stitched, stapled, or riveted to a toe piece 2 and to a heel-seat and shank piece 3 and, after lasting, a permanent cement attachment of these parts is made. The toe and heel may be lasted in a bed lasting machine and wings 9, 10 of the upper may be cemented to the shank pieces 3. If desired, a complete insole or sock unit may be provided which is cemented to the inside of the shoe, in which case the lasting allowance is perforated to allow cement activator to pass through. An outsole is cement attached.
