Abstract
842,914. Boots &c. MAERTENS, K., and FUNCK, H. May 10, 1957, No. 14892/57. Class 17(2) In shoes in which the cemented or welded connection of an outsole of resilient thermoplastic material to a welt of similar material provides the only connection of the outsole to the shoe upper parts stitching which secures the welt to the upper parts in a permanent state of tension only extends through the upper part of the welt so that the distance from the lower extremity of the stitching to the outsole is greater than half the thickness of the sole. In the Veldtshoen shown an upper 2 is out-turned and stitched to an insole 1 and the upper assembly is then secured by stitching 9 in a channel 5 of a welt 4. An elastic or porous filler 12 is placed loosely within the attached welt strip and a plastic sole 10 is welded to the bottom of the welt 4. Goodyear and other welted constructions are also illustrated and also force lasted constructions are shown in one of which the welt is provided with an upwardly extending flap which covers and is sewn to the lower part of the upper to improve the waterproofing. Differently shaped welts are used in each case. Specification 842,915 is referred to.
