Abstract

842,915. Boots &c. MAERTENS, K., FUNCK, H., and GOTZ, H. May 10, 1957, No. 14893/57. Class 17(2) Footwear having an elastic sole connected to the upper or welt by cementing or welding over an area along the edge of the sole is provided with an open groove or slot in the sole or welt spaced from the connection area but extending parallel thereto. An upper 2 is connected by stitching 4 to an insole I and a welt 3 to which an elastic sole 6 is cemented or welded over a surface area 5. This connection may be reinforced by stitching 15 and cushion filling 14 may be placed between the insole and outsole. Grooves 12, 7<SP>1</SP>, which remain open, are provided in the thicker edge portion 11 of the sole to relieve the tensile stresses on the connection area 5. In alternative forms illustrated a groove or slot may be provided only in the inner or outer edges of a thickened part of the welt or the thickened sole edge and may be wide with a rounded bottom. The grooves or slots extend over between a two thirds and a half of the area 5. Specification 842,914 is referred to.
