Class 17(2) A shoe has a sole structure which includes a sock lining 31 with one or more slits through its thickness, and a foot contacting element such as a strap 25, 26, 27 or a bridge support 24 which passes through the corresponding slit 41, 48, 36 in the sock lining from above and is secured to the sole structure by elastic means 40, 45, 47, 35 which lies in its entirety beneath the sock lining. As shown the shoe comprises an inner sole 20, consisting of a stiff bottom layer 29, e.g. of leather, a resilient upper layer 30, e.g. of foam rubber, a resilient heel padding element 39, and a sock lining 31, a wedge heel 21, on outsole 22, and a heel 23. The bridge support 24, Figs. 1 and 2, is stitched at the rear to an elastic member 35 which passes through an aperture 36 and is stitched to the insole body or to the sock lining. Alternatively, as in Fig. 16, the bridge support 24a may be a forwardly extending part of the rear sock lining which passes through an aperture 36a and is connected to an elastic member 35a secured to the sole by stitching 37a. One end of strap 25 passes through slit 41 and has an elastic member 40 stitched to the sole, while the other end 44 is anchored beneath the inner sole 20 or fitted with an elastic member and secured similarly to the first end. The ends of straps 26, 27 with elastic members 45, 47 pass through slits 41, 48, while the forward ends are preferably secured by adhesive between the inner and outer soles. The sock lining may be formed of a heel part 51 and forepart 50, Fig. 13, overlapped and stitched at the sides 52, 53 only, so as to leave a slit 54 for the bridge support. The elastic members after passing through slits 58, 59, 60 in the sock lining 57 may also pass through apertures 58a, 59a, 60a in the insole body, Fig. 8, shielding straps 72, 73 preventing adhesion of the sock margins to the elastic elements.
