Abstract

849,062. Boots with toe protectors. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Oct. 29, 1958 Alec. 11, 1957], No. 34616/58. Classes 17(2) and 17(3) A safety boot 11 comprises a sole 13, an upper 12, a rigid shield 15 shaped generally similarly to the shape of the toe portions of the boot and extending upwardly over the toe and instep, and an arcuate brace 16, extending over the instep and attached at the lower ends to the sole at about the ball portion, for supporting the shield in spaced relation to the upper. Preferably the upper is formed of rubberised fabric, the sole and heel of solid rubber, and the shield and brace of rigid material, e.g. hard rubber or semi-ebonite. Layers 17, 18 of soft rubber may be provided over the shield and brace. The shield 15 extends to a point about one inch higher than the ankle joint portion of the boot, and may be secured to an extended edge 21 of the sole.
